The Main Event:

THURSTON (5-1) AT SPRINGFIELD (1-3)

■ Game facts: Friday, Oct. 3, 7 p.m. … The Colts are ranked No. 18 in Class 5A and the Millers are ranked No. 21.
Tickets: Adults $6, students $4, ages six and under and seniors are free.
■ What2Know: The Millers look to continue the momentum from a narrow victory over North Eugene last week. The Colts have won this matchup nine years in a row by an average of 38.1 points. Springfield will need to run the ball effectively to succeed, as rushing has accounted for a whopping 75% of its offensive production this season. The Colts defense has been formidable, and matches up well against the run-heavy approach of Springfield. The Colts defense has allowed more than 17 points only once, when they faced Henley’s pass-heavy attack.

Creswell’s Hunter Mustin reacts after the Bulldogs beat the Lions on Friday night.
ADON ECCLES / THE CHRONICLE

CRESWELL – Things weren’t looking promising for the Creswell Bulldogs early this season.

After an 0-2 start, key injuries, and a general lack of execution, the Bulldogs were looking more like the “Under Dawgs” with each game.

But first-year head coach Chase Beach remained confident in the Bulldogs long-term potential – and that faith paid off Friday night.

The Class 3A Bulldogs defeated the Class 4A Cottage Grove Lions 21-13 in what is likely one of the toughest scheduled games of the year.

“It’s special,” Beach said of the team’s first victory. “I think tonight everyone saw the things I was talking about and felt when I first took this job – I’m just so proud of them, man, that’s it. I mean, we’re blessed.”
