Joseph, Crawford, and Strinz deliver as teams push through league

In Class 4A last week, Cottage Grove lost to Marist Catholic and Marshfield last week, falling 3-0 in both matches. Against Marist, Jocelyn Joseph was the top performer, recording 7 kills, 11 digs, and was the only player to earn aces, finishing with 2. Taylor Bennett also had 7 kills and matched Joseph with 11 digs. Alexsis Woody had 10 digs and 1 kill. Against Marshfield, Bennett and Joseph led again, recording the highest number of kills with 7 each, and 11 digs.

In Class 3A, Creswell hosted their tournament last Saturday. Earlier in the week, it had gone 2-1 in the Mountain Valley Conference play. Creswell is 8-8 overall. Pleasant Hill beat Creswell earlier last week and then lost to Harrisburg. In the 3-1 win over Creswell, junior Anna Crawford had 21 kills, 12 digs and 3 aces. Junior Sari Strinz had 21 kills and 17 digs. In the 1-3 loss to Harrisburg, libero Kyla Hampton had 17 digs and 6 aces. Anna Crawford had 14 kills and 19 digs. Kilinoe Cookman added 5 kills and 5 aces.

In Class 5A, Springfield went 1-1 last week, beating Eagle Point 3-2 and then losing to Thurston 3-1. The Millers are 0-3 vs. the Colts since last season. Thurston went 2-1 last week, losing to the Midwestern league favorite, the Churchill Lancers on Tuesday, but then beat league rivals Springfield and North Eugene on Saturday.

#9 COTTAGE GROVE LIONS (7-4)

Setting up: The Lions continue Sky-Em League play where they lost their undefeated streak and have picked up a series of losses. They hope to recover for the second half of the league schedule. This week, they’ll hit the road to Junction City and North Bend. Look for Jayda Bruner and Mariah Bailey.

#17 CRESWELL BULLDOGS (8-8)

Setting up: The Bulldogs continue Mountain Valley Conference play, where they have a 1-2 record. This week, they’ll see Harrisburg and Elmira. Last year, the Bulldogs went 3-0 against both teams in league.

#16 PLEASANT HILL BILLIES (8-6)

Setting up: The Billies play La Pine (3-7) this Thursday and then open up the Pleasant Hill Invitational this Saturday. Participants include Stayton, Mazama, and Crane.

#24 SPRINGFIELD MILLERS (4-7)

Setting up: The Millers play Crater and North Eugene this week. Last season, the Millers went 0-2 against both teams. The Midwestern League is still fresh and spectators can see if new head coach Andrea Barrera has any tricks up her sleeve.

#20 THURSTON COLTS (4-5)

Setting up: The Colts play the North Eugene Highlanders this week. The Colts are 2-3 in the Midwestern League. However, first-year coach Kayla Devereaux has been mainly focused on a winning season to boost confidence in the Colts right now after last season.
