Eugene gallery to showcase A3 teen talent

EUGENE – The Maude Kerns Art Center will present two exciting exhibits from Sept. 12 to Oct. 3: the 26th annual Mayor’s Teen Art Show and the Whiteaker Printmakers 2025 Emerald Print Exchange.

An opening ceremony for both exhibits will take place on September 12, with the Mayor’s Teen Art Show featuring work by 34 teen artists from 12 area schools in the Main Gallery. The Awards Ceremony is scheduled for that same day at 5 p.m., where Eugene Mayor Kaarin Knudson will present the Mayor’s Choice Award.

The Mayor’s Teen Art Show was juried by Thurston High School art educator Perry Joseph, artist and Maude Kerns Art Center instructor Steve Steinaway, and past Mayor’s Teen Art Show award winner Moth S, who is a new instructor at Maude Kerns Art Center.

Alexander Baker, a 15-year-old student from Springfield Academy of Arts and Academics, will showcase an acrylic painting titled “Duality of Man.” The piece, characterized by its strong vertical orientation and vibrant red background, features two brightly colored heads of a man, one inverted above the other.

Baker expressed his creative approach, stating he enjoys exploring different mediums, experimenting with color schemes, and utilizing unusual perspectives to inspire fresh interpretations of art.
