Softball Recaps

■ THURSTON was swept by Eagle Point last week, by scores of 13-3, 7-4, and 17-12. The Eagles scored nine in the third inning of game one, then had multiple innings of 3+ runs in each of the next two games. Syren Ferguson was 5-for-9, with two doubles and 4 RBI in the two games on Saturday.

■ SPRINGFIELD was swept by Ashland/Phoenix last week and went scoreless in all three games. Tynlee Madden had both hits in Wednesday’s loss. The Millers have scored two or fewer runs in nine consecutive games.

■ COTTAGE GROVE defeated Marshfield 18-6 in its league opener. The Lions had five players with multiple hits, and hitters 3-6 in its batting order all had 3+ RBI. Shae Richardson was 3-for-3, with a walk, a double and 4 RBI, Alexsis Woody was 3-for-4, with 3 RBI and two runs scored, and Macey Basting was 3-for-4, with four runs scored. On Friday, the Lions lost 17-7, then won 14-13 in a Friday doubleheader at Marshfield. Makya Alsup was 3-for-3, with a HR and 3 RBI in Game Two, while Woody and Jayda Bruner were 6-for-6, with 4 RBI, and 7-for-9, with two doubles and 3 RBI, over the two games, respectively.

■ CRESWELL defeated La Pine 7-2 for its first league victory of the season. Elise Thackara was 2-for-4, with a double and 3 RBI, Savannah Rook was 2-for-4, with a triple and two runs scored, and sophomore Rylee Apker threw a complete game, allowing zero earned runs and only four hits. They kept rolling into Friday, winning two high-scoring games over Sisters. Game One finished 17-13, while Game Two was 11-10. Thackara’s two-RBI single broke a deadlock in the sixth inning of Game One, while the Bulldogs held off a comeback attempt in Game Two. Rook was 5-for-7, with 7 stolen bases and 5 runs scored over the two games, while sophomore Brenna Roat reached base in seven of nine plate appearances, with five hits and four runs scored.

■ PLEASANT HILL lost 18-2 to Harrisburg on Tuesday. After the loss, the Billies average only 6.2 runs per game at home, compared to 22.4 on the road. The Billies two pitchers threw 163 pitches in the four innings before the run rule kicked in. The Billies rebounded on Friday, with two “run-rule” victories over La Pine. Game One’s 13-3 outcome was led by the Billies top three hitters, who were 8-for-10, with eight runs scored. Game Two’s 21-0 score saw the Billies bat only twice before a three inning run-rule kicked in. Khloe Perkins was 4-for-4, with a triple and 5 RBI, and her fellow sophomore Stella Carlton was 2-for-2, with 4 RBI and three runs scored.
