LANE COUNTY – Lane County residents are once again being targeted by phone scammers impersonating employees of the Lane County Sheriff’s Office. These scammers typically present themselves as sergeants and claim there are warrants, missed jury duty, or unresolved legal issues. They may even offer to assist with bail for family members in jail. The scammers often request payments or personal information, threatening arrest if demands are not met. Payments are typically solicited digitally through methods such as cryptocurrency or phone apps. Residents who suspect they are being targeted should hang up and report the incident to the dispatch center at 541-682-4150, option 1.
