THURSTON
■ Tipping off: The Colts (1-2) will face the Tualatin Timberwolves (2-1) in the first game of the Capitol City Classic at Willamette University on Thursday, Dec. 18. The tournament will span six days, with the Colts playing four games. While its next three opponents have not yet been determined, the Timberwolves are a formidable opponent. The Colts are stepping up a weight class for the third time in five games, and this time it will be against a Timberwolves team that has won two of the past four Class 6A state titles. The Colts will be attempting to bounce back from two consecutive 3-point losses.
SPRINGFIELD
■ Tipping off: Springfield (1-3) looks to parlay its first victory in almost two years into sustained success. Lejhaun Henderson and Noah Solo are coming off a game in which they each scored 20+ points. The Millers have three home games this week, but all three are unfamiliar opponents. First up, visiting Bend (4-2) on Thursday, Dec. 18. These two last played in 2015, when Springfield won 57-42. The Lava Bears are on a three-game winning streak. Two days later, the Millers welcome the McMinnville Grizzlies (2-2) on Saturday. The Grizzlies and Millers last faced off in ’19, when Springfield won 55-40. The Grizzlies are the first Class 6A opponent of the season for the Millers. Finally, Jeremy Young’s team will take on the Molalla Indians (5-0) on Monday, Dec. 22. The Indians are No. 2 in Class 4A, with a 5-0 record for the first time in over a decade.
