Creswell starts perfect; girls soccer roundup

Cottage Grove went 2-0 last week in non-league. It began on Tuesday with a 2-0 win against Cascade. The Lions recorded 10 shots on goal and the GK made 5 saves. Brielle Engle scored on a through ball from Penelope Smith. The second goal was from a corner kick by Autumn Leach to Emmerson Bickford. The Lions then dominated Sweet Home 7-1 on Thursday. Lions goalscorers: 2 goals by Leach; 2 goals by Ally Kishen; 2 goals by Bickford; and 1 goal by Maddie Gray.Assists came from Leach, Kishen and Gray.

Creswell had an explosive week by beginning Special District 3 with two 8-0 shutouts. It started Tuesday with La Pine. Mila Nguyen and Elliette Kinney each scored 3 goals and recorded two assists. Kendall Durflinger had 1 goal and 2 assists. Keeley Goddard scored 1 goal. Lastly, Kinslee Roberts and Kylie Leonard each recorded an assist. The team then dominated Elmira on Friday. Nguyen and Kinney recorded the same stats. Durflinger scored another goal. Roberts recorded a goal and an assist. Brenna Roat and Ava Foote each recorded an assist.

Pleasant Hill began its season 1-1-0 last week. It began with an 8-0 shutout of Elmira. Senior captain Trinity Smead had 4 goals, including one at the third minute and the second goal at the five-minute mark of the game before a 30-minute lightning delay happened at the 10-minute mark of the game. Freshman striker Dani Boyd came off the bench and added three goals and an assist. Senior Kaylee Gardner also added a goal and two assists. Senior captain Isabel Hammond-Mendez, junior Zoe Dilts, and freshman Emerson Hill also had an assist each. Senior captain goalkeeper Kenna Caldwell-Copeland needed one save to keep the Elmira Falcons off the scoreboard. Then, the Billies tied against the No. 4 ranked Central Linn Cobras. Senior captain Caldwell-Copeland had 16 saves to keep the Cobras off the board and the Billies defense did not break.

Springfield went 1-1 last week. It began with a 3-0 win over the Class 4A Junction City Tigers on Tuesday. The Millers beat Eagle Point 2-0 in a non-league “friendly” on Saturday. Lastly, Thurston went 1-1 last week. It began when the Colts saw a 3-1 victory over West Albany on the road Monday and then a 5-0 loss to Canby.

■ Kicking off: The Lions open Sky-Em League play this week against their most competitive opponent: Marist Catholic. Last year, the Lions went 0-2 against the Spartans in high-scoring losses of 6-0 and 8-0. Look for Brielle Engle, Zoey Knutson, and Emmerson Bickford as they play at home this Wednesday.

16 CRESWELL (3-0)

■ Kicking off: The Bulldogs head to Siuslaw this Thursday to play against the Vikings. This should be a breezy match for the dominating Bulldogs with high scores Mila Nguyen and Elliette Kinney. However, the real challenge will be the Bulldogs’ first match against the Pleasant Hill Billies on Tuesday – their Special District 3 archrival.

12 PLEASANT HILL (1-0-1)

■ Kicking off: The Billies head to Santiam Christian on Thursday to battle the Eagles. This will be a walk in the park for the Billies, who went 2-0 with the Eagles last season. The true test will be this Tuesday, when the Billies head to Creswell to face their league rivals.

20 SPRINGFIELD (2-1)

■ Kicking off: The Millers invite West Albany to Silke Field this Thursday. West Albany recently lost to Thurston 3-1.After that the Millers head to Woodburn and begin to close out non-league games.

12 THURSTON (2-2)

■ Kicking off: The Colts play against the Class 4A Cascade Jaguars this Tuesday.
