The Cottage Grove Lions were shutout for the first time since 2023, losing to Coquille 34-0. The Lions struggled with the physicality of Coquille’s running game, with many missed tackles and four rushing touchdowns allowed. The Red Devils dominated the middle of the game, scoring 22 of 34 points in the second and third quarters. Deegan Johnson had all four rushing touchdowns for the Red Devils.
The Springfield Millers lost to the Bend Lava Bears 34-28 on the road last week. After trailing 28-0 at halftime, the Millers came all the way back to tie the game at 28 at the end of regulation. After tying the game, the Millers had a chance to win the game with a successful two-point conversion or extra point, but could not convert. Quarterback Noah Solo led the rushing attack with 120 yards and three touchdowns, but threw three interceptions.
Creswell lost to Sutherlin 46-6 last week. Creswell scored first on a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carson Jolliff to Darian Dewey. At the end of the first quarter, Creswell trailed only 7-6. From then on, Sutherlin controlled the game, scoring 39 unanswered points. Creswell struggled with tackling as Sutherlin scored multiple long touchdowns where players dragged tacklers into the end zone.
First-year Billies head coach Kenny Koberstein earned his first victory 33-20 againist Brookings-Harbor last week. The Billies got revenge on the Bruins after falling 22-20 in last season’s matchup. Sophomore Kai Davis was the engine of the Billies offense with 168 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries. Billies quarterback Steven Bounds scored three touchdowns and receiver Cota Aanrud had 122 yards.

SOUTH EUGENE (0-2) AT THURSTON (2-1)

What2Know: South Eugene has lost 17 straight games, with a win over Willamette on Sept. 14, 2023 the last time it tasted victory. The Axe will be facing a Colts defense headlined by 2024 second-team all state linebacker Cruz Gray. Gray leads a defense that is allowing less than 10 points per game this season. South Eugene QB Felix Olietti has managed only 59 passing yards through two games.
DOUGLAS (1-1) AT PLEASANT HILL (1-1)
Game facts: Friday, Sept. 19, 7 p.m. … The Billies are ranked 19th in Class 3A and the Trojans are No. 6.
What2Know: The Trojans are on an upward trajectory with six wins in 2024 equalling their total from the three years previous. The Billies will look to ride the momentum of last week’s victory into a home upset. Offensive balance will be key, as the Billies look to combine Week One’s passing efficiency with last week’s rushing success.
CHURCHILL (2-1) AT SPRINGFIELD (0-2)
Game facts: Friday, Sept. 19, 7 p.m. … The Churchill Lancers are ranked No. 12 in Class 5A and the Springfield Millers are No. 31.
What2Know: The Lancers will travel the short distance to Springfield to face the Millers. The Millers are coming off a 34-28 overtime loss to the Bend Lava Bears in which a spirited second half comeback fell short. Millers QB Noah Solo will need to bounce back from a three-interception game against a Lancer defense that has allowed seven points or fewer in each game.
