COTTAGE GROVE — Cottage Grove hired Kim Beer to lead its girls basketball program, Athletic Director Garrett Bridgens said last Wednesday.

“I feel energized by the reality of being back in the Sky-Em League and having the opportunity to be the coach,” Beer said. “The girls that I have met so far seem ready to get started, and so am I. My wife and I are looking forward to this new journey with the Lions.”

Beer has 26 years of experience in the Willamette Valley area, with coaching stints in multiple classifications and over 300 career wins. In girls basketball, from 1999-04, he led Class 1A North Douglas in Drain to a 95-51 record. From 2006-10, he coached La Pine, leading the Hawks to a state championship victory in 2009. According to Oregon School Activities Association, the Hawks had 17 consecutive losing seasons before him. He left with an 80-51 record.
Beer moved to Pleasant Hill in 2011-13, and recorded a 34-52 record. The Billies had been winless the previous year and he guided them to 11 wins in his first season. Beer returned to the Hawks from 2014-16, recording a final record of 127-81 with La Pine. From there, he coached the boys team at 1A Lowell, then moved to 1A Yoncalla, and made another appearance with Pleasant Hill, leading them to a 23-3 record after the Billies went 6-11 the season before. He coached La Pine boys to a 17-31 record from 2024-25.
Bridgens said Beer is known for “his ability to connect with players, teach the game with clarity, and adapt his systems to fit the strengths of his team.”
