Club sports flag football, boys volleyball and varsity sports tennis, and golf all reached the end of their seasons.
In its first season, Pleasant Hill girls flag football went to the state championship as the No. 15 seed. The playoffs were at Sam Barlow High School in Gresham.
The Billies lost to No. 2 South Salem in the first round. Sam Barlow HS won the state title this year after beating the defending champs, South Salem, 14-7.
The Oregon School Activities Association approved flag football as an “emerging activity” in October 2024 after it met the “25-school threshold.” This season, the number of schools jumped from 32 to 47. If it reaches 50 schools in the upcoming year, “it will be eligible to be sanctioned by OSAA.” With only three schools left to meet the threshold, the sport looks to have a promising future.
The fifth-seeded Creswell boys volleyball team competed in the Class 1A/2A/3A bracket at state championships. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs hosted No. 12 Yamhill-Carlton and won 3-0. They then lost to No. 4 1A Damascus Christian/Mannahouse Academy in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Bulldogs, led by varsity girls coach Anna Baltrusch, then battled their way through the consolation bracket at the Olympus Sports Center in Hillsboro.
They downed Class 2A Faith Bible / Life Christian and Class 3A Westside Christian on Sunday to secure fourth place. St. Mary’s of Medford won the title for the second year in a row.
In Class 4A, Estacada took the title. 5A Summit came back to defend its title, while 6A Central Catholic earned its first title. Boys volleyball has reached the 50-school threshold and awaits its future in October when OSAA votes on its status as a full varsity sport.
Class 5A schools Thurston and Springfield competed at the OSAA tennis state championships last week. Hunter and Peyton Reed of Thurston earned 10th for the Thurston boys team. They also earned sixth place in the Boys Doubles in the consolation bracket. Alexis Deluna competed as the girls team for Thurston. Springfield boys earned 13th with Finn San Filippo and Rikuya Kasai. La Salle Prep took the title for the 5A boys and girls.
5A Thurston also competed at the OSAA golf state championships, where Thurston boys took seventh overall. Lincoln Wiedenmann finished 11th after shooting a two-day total 156. Camille Gamble represented the girls team for Thurston. Corvallis won the state title for the 5A boys team; Wilsonville for the 5A girls.
