Chronicle Foundation awarded $7,500 grant

The Chronicle Foundation, which supports the only locally-owned general-interest newspaper in the area, received a $7,500 grant on Thursday, May 15, as part of the Oregon Community Foundation’s spring grant cycle program.

The grants specifically support nonprofits in the southern Willamette Valley who are addressing needs in rural and underserved communities. The Chronicle Foundation spends 100% of its fundraising and grant money on helping The Chronicle newspaper and website cover education and other nonprofits in the communities it serves.

“We are grateful for the support and resources,” said Noel Nash, president of The Chronicle Foundation. “We’ve always received great support from our readers – they’ve responded to previous fundraising efforts during challenging times. The OCF grant will help us fulfill our mission and commitment to the small and rural communities the paper covers.”

Oregon Community Foundation distributed nearly $1 million in grants to local organizations making progress on housing, child care, hunger, substance abuse, arts and culture, and those serving immigrants, refugees and others. In all, OCF’s Community Grants program is investing $921,700 in the work of 35 local organizations.

Funding from OCF’s 2025 Spring Cycle of Community Grants is flexible, allowing organizations to invest the money where it is needed most. Statewide the program has awarded $5,629,398 to 241 nonprofits serving urban and rural communities.

“All over our state, Oregonians are working to make their communities better, and we rely on them to point the way to solutions and innovative ideas,” said Marcy Bradley, OCF’s chief community engagement and equity officer.

“Flexible operating funds through our Community Grants show the trust and respect we have for our local communities,” Bradley said. “We’re grateful to our donors for making this possible and to our nonprofit partners for their deep knowledge and desire to improve the lives of all Oregonians.”
