Special Election update: Close contests, new leaders emerge

Unofficial results from the May 20 Special Election indicate a combination of close contests and clear victories in the South Lane and Springfield school districts. A total of 51,494 ballots have been cast so far, and additional results are expected to be reported by 5 p.m. today, May 22.

In the Springfield School Board race, incumbent Jonathan Light, who was previously trailing by eight votes, has now pulled 167 votes over Justin Martin for Position 3. 

For Position 5, Amber Langworthy leads with 56% of the vote, significantly outpacing Bob Brew, who received nearly 29%, and Robert Morgan, who garnered 15%. 

For Position 2, incumbent Heather Quaas-Annsa has established a decisive lead with 66.04% of the vote, totaling 4,277 ballots, compared to Sarah Bosch’s 33%.

In the South Lane School Board election, the race for Director Position 5 is exceptionally close. Incumbent Colleen Valley holds a narrow lead, just nine votes ahead of Tony Lefler. Meanwhile, Bill Parsons leads in Position 7 by a slim margin of 15 votes over incumbent Jeff Gowing, and Chris Holloman leads by 207 votes for Position 4 incumbent Sherry Duerst-Higgins. Diane Hicks has a steadily increasing lead for Position 2, with 59% of the vote compared to Rayla Campbell.

In the Lane Community College Board, incumbents are holding strong leads. In Zone 3, incumbent Julie Weismann holds nearly 55% of the vote compared to Devon Lawson. In Zone 4, incumbent Austin Fölnagy maintains a solid position with 65% against Richard Andrew Vasquez, and Jerry Rust leads with 66% of the vote against Jeffrey Cooper.
