Public Safety Roundup: Fatal crash, CG death investigation, firearm assault, more

Fatal crash on Territorial 

CROW – On March 31 at about 9:30 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded with fire personnel to a single-vehicle crash on Territorial Road near Doane Road, south of Crow. The vehicle, a 2005 Chevy Malibu, left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a tree. The driver was the only occupant and was killed in the crash. The cause of the crash is under investigation, and the identity of the involved is being withheld until next of kin are notified.

Cottage Grove Police investigating death

The Cottage Grove Police Department is investigating a death that occurred on March 28 at approximately 3:50 a.m. after officers responded to a report of a woman found lying on the sidewalk outside 711 HWY 99. Upon arrival, she was pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim is being withheld as authorities work to notify the next of kin. The cause of death is under investigation. 

Springfield man arrested  for firearm assault in Grove

COTTAGE GROVE – Police responded on March 28 at 9:20 p.m. to a fight involving a firearm in the 1500-block of Cottage Heights Loop.  Upon arrival, officers discovered that Scott A. Johnson, 45, of Springfield, allegedly assaulted another adult male and threatened him with a pistol. Johnson was arrested at the scene and booked into Lane County Jail.

Power outage wind-related

SPRINGFIELD — Approximately 150 Springfield Utility Board (SUB) customers in the Harbor Drive area of south Springfield were without power on March 27 after strong winds gusted through the area.  Crews restored service within an hour of the initial outage reports.
