Short window for Heritage Arts Grant

SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield Arts Commission last week opened the 2025 Heritage Arts Grants application period through 5 p.m. on April 30. It is open to organizations, groups, artists, and people in Lane County planning arts-and-culture projects culminating in a public event, performance, or exhibition. $4,500 is available, with individual awards from $250 to $1,500. Friday: ‘Live the Impact: A Night to Uplift Youth’

SPRINGFIELD – After welcoming  Jesse Nelson as the new executive director for Connected Lane County, the nonprofit invites the public to celebrate at the “Live the Impact: A Night to Uplift Youth” event on Friday, April 4 at Spark at Booth-Kelly,  303 S. 5th St., Suite 150. There will be hands-on activities and opportunities to connect directly with CLC’s work.

Bilingual author event

Visit the Springfield Public Library on Tuesday, April 8 for a Bilingual English/Spanish author event with Chilean poet Jesús Sepúlveda and his book Espejo de los detalles / Mirror of Details at 5:30 p.m. at 225 5th St. Sign up in advance to get a free copy of the book while supplies last. Water safety storytime

Cottage Grove Library will host a Storytime with Bobber the Water Safety Dog on Friday, Apirl 4 at 11:30 a.m. Head librarian Nathasha Chitow said the special storytime with Bobber the Water Safety Dog and the Army Corps of Engineers. 

Book clearance, seed starters 

Stop by The Creswell Library, 34 W. Oregon Ave., through April 5 to fill a bag with books for $5. … On the same day at 2 p.m., former Chronicle writer Elyse Grau will give a seed start demo followed by a seed swap.

■ Cottage Grove Community Sharing Pantry needs donations of nonperishable food. Drop off items at 1440 Birch Ave. Monday, 1:30-6 p.m. and  Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. More info:  541-942-2176.

■ Springfield’s Eastgate Woodlands – part of the Whilamut Natural Area, which extends west to Eugene and Alton Baker Park – needs dedicated volunteers to help save trees, protect water quality, and improve habitat. Cleanup occurs on the second Wednesday of every month from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Volunteers lend a hand by using basic tools to remove invasive vegetation, especially targeting English Ivy. Pow Wow Celebration
