Marv Durham of Springfield passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022 at the age of 78 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. One of his favorite sayings was “you’ve gotta be tough” and he embodied that to the end.
Marv was born on Dec. 15, 1943 in Pasadena, Calif. and graduated from Willamette High School in Eugene. He served his country for several years in the Army National Guard.
Marv married the love of his life, Judy “Jude” Duncan, on Oct. 22, 1966. Together, they lovingly raised two children, Shawn and Shantel. He served as a father figure to many, was a much-loved uncle, and earned the honorary title of “Grandpa Marv.”
He worked as an underground lineman for the Eugene Water and Electric Board for 30 years, retiring in 1999.
Marv enjoyed camping and riding motorcycles with his young family. Camping was something he and Jude also enjoyed in retirement, spending several winters in Yuma, Ariz. Marv and Jude also enjoyed car shows and cruises with their Camaro and several Corvettes through the years.
Exercise and fitness were extremely important to Marv and until his diagnosis, he continued to walk several miles each morning. He made many friends waving to people as he walked and they commuted to work along Hayden Bridge. Lengthy bike rides with good friends were also one of his favorite pastimes. Marv enjoyed watching Ducks football, baseball, softball, and basketball.
Above all, Marv loved his family and they loved him. He was thrilled that they could all be together from the time of his diagnosis to the time of his passing.
Marv is survived by his wife, Jude, of Springfield, son Shawn and wife Lesa of Sandy, daughter Shantel of Springfield, brother Lyle of Maple Valley, Wash., sister-in-law Patricia Mermis of Wilsonville, and mother-in-law Bonnie Boyce of Eugene.
