Joyce Kordon

April 23, 1930 – Sept. 13, 2022

Joyce Haniuk Kordon was born April 23, 1930, to Wallace and Nellie Haniuk in Gorham, N.D. She was one of 16 children. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully Sept. 13, 2022, from natural causes.

Joyce was raised in North Dakota and lived her adult life in Salem, Eugene and Springfield, Ore. She earned a high school diploma from Model High School in North Dakota and had an early career in banking, then later as a homemaker raising seven children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Joyce enjoyed participating in church activities, cooking, gardening, reading and crossword puzzles. She was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and participated in her church choir. 

Her enthusiasm, spirituality and vigor for life inspired all those she touched. Her ongoing generosity to help those in need never wavered. Her faith in her savior Jesus Christ was immoveable and shined in all she did.

Joyce will be remembered for her huge generous heart, sense of humor, wit, prize winning blueberry pie, baba bread, hanging flower baskets and her kind and caring soul. 

She is predeceased by daughter Kelly Kordon. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Zosum Kordon; brother, Wallace (Candy) Haniuk; daughters, Karla (Greg) Bean, Kim Jones, Kristin (Bruce) Drury, Kathy Kordon; brothers, Kurt (Lucinda) Kordon, Kenn Kordon; grandchildren, Kyle (Sarah) Kordon, Katelynn (Chris) Connor, Nicole (Chase) Haywood, Heather Bean, Mikaila (Nych) Kremer, Matthew Jones, Michael Drury, Olivia Kordon and Anna Kremer.

A celebration of life will be held on Oct. 14, at St. Alice Catholic Church, 1520 E St. in  Springfield. A rosary will be held at 11:30 a.m. with mass commencing at 12:15 a.m. Reception will follow at the same location. Arrangements provided by Andreason’s Mortuary.
