The week ahead: Football

Creswell Bulldogs vs. Corbett Cardinals

Game facts: 7 p.m. at Creswelll … Bulldogs (1-1); Cardinals (0-2).

What2Know: The Bulldogs were shut out last week by a talented Santiam Christian team. They should have a great chance to bounce back this week in their last non-conference game of the season against a Cardinal team that has failed to score a TD in their first two games. A win at home in the first of three consecutive home games would put the Bulldogs back on track.

Quotable: “Looking to put in a great week and get prepared for our home opener. Excited to finally play in front of the home crowd this week.” – Head coach Scott Worsham

Pleasant Hill Billies at Harrisburg Eagles

Game facts: 7 p.m. in Harrisburg … Billies (2-0); Eagles (1-1)

What2Know: The Billies are rolling. Pleasant Hill has taken full advantage of a forgiving schedule and now stands 2-0 after not having won a game all of last season. The Billies travel to face another beatable opponent, and will look to continue their early run under new coach Jeremiah Heacock.

Quotable: “We are excited to open up league play with a tough opponent. They will present challenges on both sides of the ball and we look forward to the opportunity to compete!”– Heacock

Thurston Colts at N. Eugene Highlanders

Game facts: 7 p.m. in Eugene … Colts (0-2); Highlanders (1-1)

What2Know: The bad news: the Colts are 0-2 on the season and got beat handily last week at Summit. The good news: the last time the Colts were 0-2 they won the state championship in 2018. The realistic news: Thurston has a young team, and it faced probably the two best teams in 5A football in its first two games. It isn’t time to hit the panic button yet, but a win this week in their league opener is important for the Colts.

Quotable: “Our team is really focused on correcting mistakes and improving this week. We have respect for North Eugene, and especially respect the athletic ability of their QB. We are hoping to play with great enthusiasm and discipline this Friday night.” – Coach Justin Starck

Cottage Grove Lions at Philomath Warriors

Game facts: 7 p.m. in Philomath … Lions (0-2); Warriors (0-2)

What2Know: The Lions were shut out once again last week, and have yet to score this season. They now travel to face a Warriors team which will also be looking for their first win of the year. Neither team will want to start 0-3, and a win in their league opener could do wonders.
