Springfield home survives fire

SPRINGFIELD – The Eugene Springfield Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 2400-block of G Street in Springfield on Wednesday, March 30. A fire in the crawl space of the home led to the removal of a section of the floor to extinguish the fire. Deputy Fire Chief Mike Caven said the home was recently renovated in a neighborhood in Springfield that is prone to fire damage due to the “older, closely packed homes.” The house was unoccupied and no injuries reported. The fire’s cause is under investigation. “A vigilant neighbor saw the smoke coming from the house and called early, preventing significant damage,” he said. “As we get to fire season, it’s important that people keep an eye out and be cautious as things start to dry out.”
