Construction continues at the Hamlin Middle School and Sports Complex where a new baseball field will host Bushnell University, Springfield HS and the Springfield Coasters of the West Coast League.

SPRINGFIELD – That dream of having a state-of-the-art baseball facility is finally close to becoming a reality for Bushnell University as it prepares to bring back baseball after a 50-year absence.

Hamlin Sports Complex – which will incorporate the already-existing ballpark at Hamlin Middle School – will also be home to Springfield High School and the Springfield Drifters, a new wood-bat team in the West Coast League.

“We wanted to add more depth to our athletic department,” Bushnell athletic director Corey Anderson said. “It also fits a need for us because we need more men, plus we’ll be the sixth team in our conference.”

Both fields are having Astro-turf surfaces installed. Anderson said the renovation project won’t be 100% completed this fall, but should be all finished by spring 2022.

“I think it’s great for the community, for us to be able to add some more options for people to do,” Anderson said. “Anybody who’s heard about it has been excited about having another summertime opportunity.”
