Two Bulldog harriers earn All-District spots

Two members of the Creswell Bulldogs cross country team have earned All-District First Team honors by placing in the top seven in the boys’ 5,000-meter race during the Special District 4 3A Boys’ and 3A/2A/1A Girls’ District Championships, held Oct. 25 at Valley of the Rogue State Park in Gold Hill.
Sophomore Brandon Moehlmann placed fourth in the boys’ 5k with a time of 18:16.26, while sophomore Josiah Lee placed seventh with a time of 18:31.58.
That the two Bulldogs both earned spots on the All-District First Team as sophomores ”is a tremendous accomplishment,” noted Creswell Head Coach Jonathan Ferguson.
Leading the 3A Boys’ All-District First Team was District Champion Kaleb Carmesin (Barnes), a freshman from Brookings-Harbor, who won the boys’ 5k with a time of 17:25.21.
Rounding out the All-District First Team were freshman Jake Saroni of Cascade Christian, who placed second in 18:10.79; junior Zachary Abblitt of Brookings Harbor, who placed third in 18:13.02; sophomore Cody Havnier of Cascade Christian, who placed fifth in 18:21.80; and sophomore Christian Steendahl of Brookings-Harbor, who placed sixth in 18:30.48.
Moehlmann represented Creswell at the Boys’ 3A State Championships, held Nov. 3 at Lane Community College in Eugene, where he placed 35th.
Earning spots on the Boys’ 3A All-State team for 2018 by placing in the top seven at state were State Champion Emmett Klus, a senior from Burns; freshman Henry Coughlan of Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa; freshman Zac Knapp of Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa; senior Zayne Troeger of Umatilla; junior JP Friedrichsen of Burns; junior Will Leonard of Catlin Gabel and Barnes of Brookings-Harbor.
