Sophomore Brandon Moehlmann was the Creswell Bulldogs’ lone representative during the OSAA 3A/2A/1A State Cross Country Championships, held Nov. 3 at Lane Community College in Eugene, and he did his team proud in his first appearance at state, placing 35th with a time of 18:43 – 27 seconds off his time at the Special District 4 3A Boys’ District Championships, held Oct. 25 at Valley of the Rogue State Park in Gold Hill. Moehlmann’s fourth-place finish there, in 18:16.26, earned him the bid to state.
District 4 Champion Kaleb Barnes, a freshman from Brookings-Harbor, placed seventh at state in 17:15.
The 2018 3A State Champion was Emmett Klus, a senior from Burns, with a time of 16:31.
Hot on his heels were a pair of freshmen from Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa: Henry Coughlan placed second in 16:33 and Zac Knapp placed third in 16:49.
Burns claimed the team championship with 52 points, while Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa placed second with 54. Westside Christian was a distant third with 94 points.
With the season now over, the young Bulldog team – the boys’ team was comprised entirely of freshmen and sophomores – are excited to see what next year brings.
”While only Brandon qualified for the state championships this year,” said Creswell Head Coach Jonathan Ferguson, ”I know that with a little hard work between this year and next, the team is going to have a great shot at competing with some of the best teams in the state.”
