Do you know what the Harvest Moon is and how it got its name?
The full moon closest to the Autumnal Equinox gets this title, usually by being the September Full moon.
Due to the equinox, the moonrise comes soon after the sunset giving an abundance of light as an aide to farmers and crews harvesting their summer crops, hence the ”Harvest” moon!
This year the Equinox will be happening at 6:54 pm, Sept. 22, just minutes before the start of the Harvest Moon Benefit Concert, even though technically we will have to wait two more days for the actual full ”Harvest” moon!
This benefit concert will be held in the historic Cottage Grove Armory in the revitalized downtown. A fantastic lineup of local musicians have been engaged to provide a great chance to really move to the beat and shake your body till it hurts. This will be an all ages, family friendly event that we hope will draw the young at heart of any age!
Creswell’s own One Dollar Check will bring their unique ”dirty roots” reggae sound to the Armory as one of four performing that night. Joining ODC will be NW Reggae legend Lady Omega from Afro Omega backed by an international band, Acoustic Folly; front woman Calysta Cheyenne & guitarist Ira Maize of the high energy ”Fortune’s Folly” and DJ King Toby of the ”Roots ‘N’ Kulcha” show on KWVA to keep the vibes bumping between bands.
Besides being able to have a fantastic night musically, there will be four local organizations who will be benefiting from your donations: Music Money 501C3, KSOW 106.7FM Real Rural Community Radio, The Cottage Grove Swinging Bridge and Cougar Mountain Farms, which practices sustainable organic agriculture since 1972.
The organizing committee wishes to thank our wonderful Sponsors!
Tickets are $10 (kids 13 and under are free) and available at the Book Mine, Crafty Mercantile or online at opalcenter.mytix.net. Saturday, Sept. 22, 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., Cottage Grove Armory.
