Students at Creswell Middle School were treated to a ”Tiger” Talent Show, featuring a variety of student performances and emceed by student Nikki Williams, during a special assembly on Friday, May 25.
The CMS Tigers student body entered the school cafetorium to the rhythm of a drum circle, followed by a brief, stylish instrumental performance by Freaks (Jurney Halvorson, Gianna Ross, Ayden Stubbs, Corbin Allison, Wyatt Petrasek, Lily Heltman-Hogg and Sophia Zitting).
Individual acts then took the stage in turn: Chalyn Michelson and Danielle Burnette sang ”Something Different”; Tylyn Bowles and Katelyn Landers sang ”Lost Boy”; Joanna Gong played ”Für Elise” on piano; Cheyenne Cross sang ”Boys Like You”; and Audrey Hecker sang ”Punk Rocker.”
While most performances were by students, Life Skills teacher Tristen Smith sang ”Mulan,” accompanied by science teacher Janelle Sailer-Sullivan on piano.
Freaks performed another brief number, followed by more student acts: Slab (Zitting, Heltman-Hogg, Hecker, Brielle Brick, Halvorson and Cardenas) played the James Bond theme; Sophia Janezic played ”Irish Washerwoman” on violin, accompanied by Gonzalo Cardenas on upright bass; and Lily Lamm sang ”Never Enough,” accompanied on piano by Jackson Velarde.
Music Director Sandi Green and Choir Director Erik Telfer also backed up some of the acts on piano or guitar.
Jennalyn Kruger performed a gymnastics routine, set to music; and the CMS Choir closed the show.
Students in the audience showed their appreciation, responding with thunderous applause and cheers after each act performed.
”It takes a lot of courage, and a lot of hard work to prepare and perform these pieces for their fellow students,” Green said. ”It was a great show, and these students that performed really did work very hard.”
