EUGENE – Over 14,200 people took Lane Transit District (LTD) buses to the Oregon Country Fair in Veneta earlier this month. Saturday, July 11, had the highest ridership, with about 5,700 attendees taking advantage of the fare-free ride. According to the International Energy Agency, cars emit between 57 and 322 gCO2-eq/pkm – compared to buses at just 22-92 gCO2-eq/pkm. Full buses emit 0.18 pounds of CO2 per passenger mile, making them comparable to rail. According to the City of Eugene, one full 40-foot bus equals a line of moving automobiles stretching six blocks.
