Man arrested for making death threats in Cottage Grove

On June 6, around 10:30 a.m., Cottage Grove Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance in the 2100 block of Wilson Avenue in Cottage Grove. South Lane 9-1-1 received multiple calls of a man confronting individuals, yelling, and threatening to kill them.

Officers arrived and talked to the victims and witnesses to the incident, identifying Brett W. Sahs, 58, as the suspect.

According to the victims, they were contracted by the neighborhood homeowner’s association (HOA) to carry out lawn maintenance in the area. While working at Sahs’s residence on Wilson Avenue, they were allegedly confronted by him, during which he issued threats. After leaving his property, they moved on to a nearby residence, only to have Sahs approach them again, shouting and making threats to kill them.

Following this encounter, he returned home and contacted his property management company to reiterate his threats, including claims that he possessed a gun and intended to shoot someone.

When officers attempted to communicate with Sahs at his residence, he refused to come out even after being informed of his arrest. Given the seriousness of the threats, mutual aid was requested, resulting in assistance from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Police, who responded to the scene.

During the incident, an officer with the Cottage Grove Police Department made phone contact with Sahs. At about 12:45 p.m., Sahs agreed to leave the residence. Once Sahs exited the residence, he was taken into custody without further incident.

Sahs was transported to the Lane County Jail, where he was booked and lodged on two counts of Menacing and one count of Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree
