Suspect arrested with illegal firearm

Springfield Police officers responded to Riverbend Hospital on May 3 to investigate a stabbing incident. Officers learned a male victim was dropped off at the hospital and had sustained multiple stab wounds. One wound was a slash to the chest area with a sharp object that required 62 stitches. Officers also learned the injuries were caused during a dispute over property in the 2800-block of El Toro Ct. Officers learned the victim had been involved in a dispute with the suspect, 42-year-old Phillip Stiggins.

On May 21, detectives executed a high-risk traffic stop where Stiggins was taken into custody without incident. Detectives also located a firearm within his possession during the arrest. He is a convicted felon, and it is unlawful for him to possess a firearm.

Stiggins was lodged at the Lane County Jail for Assault I, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The victim in this case has been released from the hospital and is recovering.


Car accident fatality on Dillard Loop

Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash on May 21 at about 10 p.m. that occurred in the 32000-block of Dillard Loop. The caller reported a vehicle crashed into a tree and the driver was not responsive. Personnel from Pleasant Hill Fire, Goshen Fire, and South Lane Fire responded.

The driver was extricated and transported by ambulance to a local area hospital. The driver, identified as 49-year-old Isaac Richard Aanrud of Creswell, did not survive.

Deputies investigated the crash scene and there is no further information at this time.


Man arrested for crimes against children

LCSO detectives responded to a residence on May 19 around 9 a.m. in the 38000-block of Camp Creek Rd., in Springfield. The suspect, 21-year-old Rowan Augustus Hockema, was arrested. Hockema was lodged at the Lane County Jail on two counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree and 2 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 2nd Degree.

The investigation began from a cyber tip received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) given to the Lane County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
