COTTAGE GROVE – The Oregon Gran Fondo is an annual mass-start cycling event held in May. Translated from Italian as “Big Ride,” it is a semi-competitive endurance challenge designed for riders of all skill levels. Saturday, cyclists from across the county took to the streets. Among them were notable local riders:
- Mark LaPage, 62, of Pleasant Hill, placed 51st among men and 57th overall in his age category, finishing with a time of 4:26:05.
- Steve Heigh, 49, of Springfield, earned 55th place among men and 59th overall in his age category, completing the event in 5:46:04 with a pace of 16.2 mph.
- Carolyn Rasche, 44, of Springfield, finished 19th among women and 84th overall in her age category, with a time of 5:47:13.
- Rocky Kumlin, 54, of Cottage Grove, placed 44th among men and 48th overall in his age category.
