Seventy-four works of art by local area artists of all ages, working in various media, are on display now through March 24 during the 12th annual Community Art Show at Creswell Library.
An Artists’ Reception to open the show was held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, in conjunction with Creswell Library’s 12th anniversary party.
”We’re excited to be here still, and growing,” said Library Director Su Liudahl in welcoming artists and guests. Expressing appreciation to library staff and volunteers, Lane Library District Board members and Friends of the Creswell Library members, she said, ”It really does take a village to create an organization like this and to keep it running well and serving the community well.”
Artists were invited to submit one or two pieces of original art. The artworks are hung or displayed throughout the library, with works by young artists on display in the children’s room. All may be viewed during regular library hours: Monday from noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Artworks displayed at the 2018 Community Art Show include acrylic, watercolor and oil painting; photography; pen and pencil drawings; woven paper, collages and mixed media; beads; dioramas; and more.
Some of the art is for sale – some with all or part of the proceeds dedicated to Creswell Library. Viewers are also invited to vote for their favorite artwork; a People’s Choice award will be given at the conclusion of the show.
”Many are unaware of the talent in this community,” Liudahl said. ”There’s some extraordinary work in this year’s show, and this is just the tip of the iceberg – there are more artists out there who are not showing their work. We hope to bring more of them to light through these small community art shows.”
