My name is Callee Ackland, and I’m proud to announce that I’m running for the Springfield City Council in the November election.
My position as a Tenant Support Specialist at the Springfield Eugene Tenant Association allows me to connect one-on-one with thousands of people across Lane County, providing me with detailed insight into the many interwoven challenges that our neighbors are experiencing. Like 45% of Springfielders, I also rent my home, and it would be an honor to bring that important perspective as the only renter on the City Council.
As a Springfield resident, I see the challenges that the City Council faces to keep our community safe and stable. While I haven’t agreed with every decision they make, I know from my own experience how hard and how important collaboration is. The biggest lesson I took away from my four years in the Navy is that great things can only be achieved through teamwork.
There are storm clouds on the horizon. As someone who lives in and loves this community, I can see it just as clearly as you: increasing costs, aging homes, crumbling roads, and the looming threat of wildfires and other natural disasters.
If we want to keep our city’s future bright, we need to put our heads together and put our shoulders to the wheel. As your next city councilor, I will use my skills and experience to create safer and more affordable housing, revitalize our roads and neighborhoods, and help build a more vibrant community that honors our roots while ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
