Rev up for history: Cars, coffee, and Rosies this weekend

SPRINGFIELD – This Saturday, Women of American Muscle is hosting a special cars and coffee event featuring Rosie the Riveters, ahead of Memorial Day.

From 10 a.m. to noon, folks can swing by Arc of Lane County at 4181 E Street in Springfield and check out vehicles of all makes, models, and years at this free, family-friendly event. A fenced playground is on-site for kiddos to stay occupied.

Starting at 10:30, the Rosies will share a personal storytime of what life was like as young women during the war and the role they played. This might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet them, hear their stories firsthand, take photos, and honor their legacy. Second-generation Rosies will be there as well.

Millions of men were drafted into the military during World War II, which resulted in labor shortages. Rosie the Riveters are women aged 95-100 years old who worked in factories during that time, building ammunition and airplanes. They symbolize the vital contributions of women to the workforce during the war and have become an enduring icon of female empowerment and gender equality.

The community is invited to celebrate strength, history, sisterhood, and horsepower with Rosies this weekend.
