Pass Willamalane measure: Values, services enrich lives

Support Measure #20-384

What is “intrinsic” value? How do you quantify how successful an organization is within a community, how vital its contributions are to the betterment of our lives?

Most of that assessment comes from our personal observation and lived experience.

For instance, it’s your use of and interaction at any of Willamalane’s parks and facilities. Perhaps it was the Halloween Carnival at the Bob Keefer Center, the annual Megga Hunt at Splash, hands-on classes and socializing at the senior center, or pickleball at Meadow Park. Bike trails, hiking paths, pools – all for Springfield residents of every age and accessibility level.

There are too many “things to do” to list here; we encourage you to check out more online at willamalane.org/places. It’s easy to see without looking too far that Willamalane’s return on investment exceeds the cost of the taxpayer contribution.

The proposed levy would cost property owners $0.25 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The owner of a home assessed at $196,803 would pay $4.10 per month – or less than $50 a year. The property tax would continue for five years and raise $8,427,029.

This is the first time the district has sought a local option levy to fund general operations since the district’s permanent tax rate was established in 1997.

Willamalane’s leaders and board have an established history of conducting annual independent audits, monthly reporting, and expenditures reviewed by its board and budget committee. Its leaders have demonstrated transparency and accountability. They tangibly make life better in the southern Willamette Valley and are excellent stewards of our natural resources at the same time. The proposed levy specifically would help bridge funding gaps to preserve current levels of service.

It is in the best interest of those living in Springfield and the surrounding areas to vote YES on Measure #20-384.
