SPRINGFIELD – On Feb.18, the Springfield Police Department received a report alleging that a man attempted to kidnap an 8-year-old child in the area of Gateway Street and Harlow Road.
Officers responded promptly and initiated a thorough investigation into the allegation, including interviewing the involved child and their parent, canvassing for potential witnesses, and reviewing available information related to the reported incident.
Detectives are involved in this investigation and have collected digital evidence, including area video surveillance.
At this time, investigators have not corroborated the report, and no evidence has been identified to substantiate that a crime occurred. Based on the information available, police said that there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.
