Domestic violence case leads to pursuit in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD – On March 5 at 12:20 p.m., Springfield Police responded to a house call in the 600-block of Lochaven Avenue regarding a disorderly subject. Initial investigation determined there was probable cause to arrest the suspect, Kevin Wayne Downs, 60.

Downs left before officers arrived and could not be located. Around 6:30 p.m., an officer observed Down’s vehicle northbound on Gateway Street. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued north on Gateway through several parking lots before Downs attempted to drive over a berm next to the roadway on International Way.

The vehicle became stuck against a retaining wall. Downs exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. K-9 Poker apprehended Downs, who was taken into custody without further incident.

Downs was taken to the hospital by officers, where he received treatment for minor injuries before being transported to the Lane County Jail, where he was lodged for assault 4 APA, DUII, reckless driving, elude by vehicle, elude by foot, and criminal mischief 1.
