Time for Lane County Commissioners to end CleanLane project

Dear Commissioners,

I have been following your discussion concerning the IGA between the County and Cities within Lane County. I have heard Steve Mokrohisky explain when and why it was implemented and how it really hasn’t been enforced. Why hasn’t it been enforced? Because it was legally challenged once and the county dropped the case because they knew they would lose in court.

This is now a topic of discussion because the county does not have the garbage tonnage to fulfill the contract you signed with BHS. Three cities have told you no, they won’t sign the IGA and a fourth is about to do the same. You do not have the authority to control the flow of garbage within Lane County despite what Commissioner Farr thinks. It is illegal, as I have stated before and it is very arrogant of you.

You are targeting one garbage hauler with your IGA, Sanipac. There are two haulers that have been hauling to Coffin Butte for years yet you have left them and the cities they serve alone regarding the IGA. By the way, those cities won’t sign it either, I’ve spoken to them. This is unfair and targeting. I fault the County Administrator, Steve Mokrohisky and Public Works Director Dan Hurley. Lots of misleading and bad information coming from the two of them to you.

Please end the CleanLane project. You are only getting further and deeper into the weeds with it.

Paul Carbaugh, Cottage Grove
