Vern and Edna Bates of Creswell celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary and Vern’s 90th birthday on April 18 in Creswell.
The couple was joined by more than 100 members of their family and friends for dinner, dancing, and storytelling.
Vern worked in a lumber mill, then owned and operated Vern Bates Tree Pulling Service for 15 years until he retired. Edna worked as a clerk stenographer at the University of Oregon and at Willamette Poultry until she retired.
She is a homemaker, raising her children and grandchildren with love and admiration, family members said.
Over the years, they’ve taken great joy in watching their family grow and celebrating their many interests and milestones.
The couple’s home has long been a gathering place for both family and friends. Together, they have built a life and legacy that unites their family together.
Vern and Edna were married April 18, 1956, in Eugene, beginning a life together that has spanned generations.
Their children and their spouses are Allen & Donna Bates of Creswell, Marcia & Bud Costley of Springfield, and David Bates & Jenny Leavitt of Creswell.
They are also “blessed with 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grand-children.”
Their 70 years together reflect a life built on partnership, love, family, and tradition.
