EUGENE – The League of Women Voters of Lane County hosted Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read Jan. 27 as part of their speaker series. He discussed his role in protecting voter data in the federal court, the success of mail-in voting, and the importance of public participation in maintaining democracy. Read also noted the work of county clerks and clarified misinformation about inactive voters. The primary election in Lane County is May 19. The deadline to register to vote is 21 days before election day. Active registered voters will receive an official ballot to complete and return.
