Girls basketball recaps

SPRINGFIELD: The No. 2 Millers (15-1) continued their dominance last week. The Millers took down No. 15 Thurston (6-9) 63-35 on Tuesday before beating No. 30 Ashland (3-12) 96-15 on Friday. The wins extended the Millers’ winning streak to 14 games. The Millers continue to fight for the top spot in the Class 5A state rankings with No. 1 Redmond (14-1). This week the teams traded ranks again, as the Millers fell one spot.

THURSTON: The No. 15 Colts (6-9) went 1-1 in their two games last week. On Tuesday, the Colts fell to No. 2 Springfield (15-1) 63-35. The Colts bounced back on Thursday though, as they beat No. 19 Mountainview (7-7) 41-34. The win snapped the Colts’ four-game losing streak, and raised them three spots in the Class 5A state rankings.

COTTAGE GROVE: The No. 14 (10-6) Lions went 0-2 last week. First, the Lions lost to No. 7 North Bend (14-3) 45-42, before losing to No. 4 Marist (10-4) 67-50 on Friday. In Friday’s matchup, Makya Alsup had 17 points and 6 rebounds. Despite losing both games last week, the Lions remained at No. 14 in the Class 4A state rankings.

CRESWELL: The No. 5 Bulldogs (12-6) took down both of their opponents last week. First, they traveled to No. 13 Harrisburg (14-5) to beat the Eagles 49-40 on Wednesday. On Friday, the Bulldogs returned home and beat No. 25 Elmira (9-8) 41-38. The Bulldogs moved up three spots in state rankings.

PLEASANT HILL: The No. 3 Billies (14-3) continued their winning streak last week to eight games. On Wednesday, the Billies took down No. 42 La Pine (3-14) 56-12 before beating No. 6 Sisters (14-4) 42-37 on Friday. The Billies have recovered well since their early season loss of Josie Dudley, who sustained a season-ending injury. The Billies rose one spot in the Class 3A state rankings.
