Vehicle in Springfield hits juvenile on electric bike

SPRINGFIELD – On Jan. 11 at 1:32 p.m., Springfield Police responded to a report of a traffic accident involving a vehicle and an electric motorcycle in the 6400-block of Thurston Road.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle’s driver did not see the electric motorcycle as he turned southbound onto 64th Street from eastbound Thurston Road. Evidence at the scene indicates the electric motorcycle was traveling westbound in the eastbound bicycle lane at the time of the crash.

The juvenile rider of the electric motorcycle was wearing a helmet and was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUII.

The Springfield Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the crash. Names of the involved are not yet being released.
