COTTAGE GROVE — The Cottage Grove Eagle Midwinter Count will take place Jan. 18 at two locations.

Participants can start at Dorena Reservoir at 9:30 a.m., with morning parking available in the Walmart lot near Outdoor Living. The count is expected to last from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In the afternoon, the count will continue at Cottage Grove Reservoir, starting at 2 p.m. Parking will be at Lakeside Park, and the count will run until approximately 4 p.m.

Wildlife enthusiasts are welcome to join at either location or both. However, participants are reminded that eagle sightings cannot be guaranteed. Scopes will be provided, but bringing personal binoculars is encouraged.

Those surveying both reservoirs should plan to bring lunch and water. Carpooling will be organized at the initial parking locations, and restrooms are available at some areas.

All bird species observed during the event will be recorded in eBird, with Alison Center continuing her decades-long leadership of the eagle count research. For questions, contact Grace Fowler-Gore at 817-975-4936 or [email protected].
