A bank-robbing crime spree in South Lane has resulted in a five-year jail sentence for Clarke Chaos Zyz, 38, of Eugene. He was sentenced on Jan. 7 by the Lane County Circuit Court to serve 70 months – about five and a half years – in the custody of the Department of Corrections, according to court documents.
Zyz, a student at Lane Community College with no known criminal record, committed back-to-back robberies at Banner Banks during broad daylight on Sept. 9, 2025.
The first robbery occurred at the Banner Bank, 25 Gateway Blvd. in Cottage Grove, followed by the second robbery a half an hour later at the Banner Bank on Oregon Avenue in Creswell. During the heists, he threatened bank employees Abigail Ortiz and Lori Adeniji with a gun if they did not follow his instructions. Court records state he stole “over $1,000” and “over $100” at these locations.
He was arrested the following day after the Lane County Sheriff’s Office utilized Flock camera data.
“It was honestly probably one of the fastest cases, start to finish, regarding sentencing,” said Sgt. Alex Speldrich, Lane County Sherrif’s Office.
Zyz is also to serve 36 months of post-prison supervision and is required to pay $2,025 in restitution to Banner Bank, according to court documents.
