SPRINGFIELD – The historic westbound OR 126B Main Street Bridge, built in 1929, spans the Willamette River. The bridge was closed on Monday, Jan. 5, and will remain closed for the next three weeks. Traffic in both directions is being detoured to the South A Street Bridge. According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, the bridge’s surface has developed cracks and requires repairs. Crews are scheduled to remove and replace the bridge surface, install new bridge joints, repave the east approach, and add a bike ramp at the east approach. The design and construction for the project are estimated to cost $4.2 million.
