Rates of influenza vaccination among health care workers in Oregon plummeted over the last five respiratory virus seasons, raising the risk of infection for patients, according to new Oregon Health Authority (OHA) data.
To increase vaccination rates, public health recommendations encourage health care workers – including contractors and volunteers – to get vaccinated every flu season. Also, facilities can host employee vaccination fairs, provide vaccines at no cost, and start incentive programs. They can also require a declination form for employees who forgo vaccination.
OHA has developed an Influenza Vaccination Tool Kit for health care employers and workers to help them improve flu vaccination rates.
