STEPPING UP: Family launches shoe drive fundraiser to support international adoption

SPRINGFIELD – The Kohl family is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser from Nov. 17, 2025, to Jan. 17, 2026, to raise money for the adoption fees of a child with Down syndrome. The family will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used, and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the donated shoes. Proceeds will benefit their adoption fees.

Anyone wishing to help can donate shoes by contacting Anna Kohl at (541) 357-9863. The donated shoes will be redistributed through the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise partners, assisting small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunities are limited. Proceeds from shoe sales help support families; one entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send her son to law school.

“We are excited about our shoe drive,” Anna Kohl said. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for the adoption fees, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

By donating gently worn, used, and new shoes, contributors help give the footwear a second chance while making a difference.

About the Kohls’ adoption: Three years ago, their world changed when Adalynn, the youngest of three, was born with Down syndrome.

The family realized then that this was the biggest gift they’d ever received. They have decided to grow their family by adopting another child with Down syndrome who is currently living in a group home in Colombia. The Kohls are passionate advocates for the Down syndrome community and appreciate any shoe donations.
