SPRINGFIELD – The owner of a local pet store has launched a community effort to support pets whose families may be in need this season. It runs through Dec. 31.
When checking out at All American Pet, 1833 Pioneer Parkway East, shoppers are invited to round up their total to the next dollar. All money goes toward buying dog and cat food for Food for Lane County and Greenhill Humane Society’s Pet Pantry.
“All contributions stay right here in Lane County,” said Richie Powell, store CEO. “A lot of families are having to make tough choices right now. This is a simple way neighbors can help make sure pets in our community don’t go hungry.”
Powell said the store is matching the first $500 in community contributions to kick off the campaign. Through a partnership with FirstMate Pet Foods, All American Pet can purchase food below wholesale.
“Most pet food drives rely on customers buying food off the shelf, sometimes with a small discount from the business,” Powell said. “While that’s generous, it limits how much food can be provided. By collecting round-up contributions instead, we can buy directly from our supplier at a deeper discount, which means more food for local pets in need.”
All American Pet was founded in 1988, and is a locally owned, second-generation pet supply and grooming business.
