The Class 4A Cottage Grove Lions lost 3-1 to Astoria in the first round of Class 3A playoffs on the road. It’s the first time the team earned a playoff spot (not play-in) in four years.
The Class 3A Pleasant Hill Billies upset No. 15 Banks 3-0 on the road last Wednesday. Anna Crawford led with 11 kills, 21 digs; Sari Strinz had 11 kills, 16 digs and 4 aces; and Kyla Hampton had 10 digs and 3 aces. The Billies then lost 3-0 to No. 2 Westside Christian 3-0 in round two. Crawford recorded 16 kills and 12 digs; Strinz 7 kills and 25 digs; Siena Shaddon 22 assists and 6 digs and Rylee Needham with 11 digs.
Class 5A Springfield lost its last game of the season against North Eugene last Tuesday 3-0. Springfield records another losing season since 2011, first-year head coach Andrea Barrera hopes to one day uplift the program.
