The seventh-seeded Class 4A Cottage Grove’s boys cross country team captured their first team title at Paul Mariman Invitational, finishing 28 points ahead of No. 4 Philomath. It was a dominant showing, with all seven varsity runners placing in the top 15, led by Jennings Albrecht (17:24), Remington Sharkey (17:35) and David Culbert (17:38) in sixth through eighth. The Cottage Grove girls earned a strong second-place finish behind third-ranked Philomath, despite top runner Ella Cardwell dropping out mid-race due to a minor foot injury. Carly Knutson led the way with an 8th-place finish (21:01) while Hailey Fergason (21:34) and Rowyn Earl (21:49) followed close behind in ninth and 12th.

Meanwhile, in Class 5A, Thurston competed in the 5th Annual Rose City Championship last weekend. Carson Buergey broke his own school record at 15:07 with a fifth-place finish in the Championship Race. The girls team placed third overall in the Silver Race. Nathalie Parker placed sixth at 19:38. Nyah Marchant marked a new PR of 20:23. Ashley Wadley earned a PR in each meet thus far and broke 21 minutes in this race. Genevieve Woodward earned a PR of 21:00.

Creswell and Springfield girls competed in the Champoeg Invitational last Friday. Springfield took 5th place overall with Bella Wells leading the way with a third-place finish and a PR of 18:56.30. Two runners competed in Creswell’s girls team of three runners. Chloe Colletti finished with a PR of 23:36.70 and Elizabeth Lewis finished with a PR of 25:23.10.
