Cottage Grove battles Marist in Sky-Em title hunt; Creswell dominates with back-to-back shutouts

In boys soccer last week, Cottage Grove beat North Bend 4-2 last Monday. The Lions had 57% percent to North Bend having 42% percent. They recorded a total of 27 shots, with 17 being on target. They also had 9 corner kicks. North Bend a total of 3 shots with 4 corner kicks. They then played the Marist Catholic Spartans on Monday and fought to a 1-1 draw. Cottage Grove had 52% possesion to Marist 48% percent of possession. The Lions had a total 12 shots with 8 on target, with 2 corner kicks. Marist had a total of 14 shots with 2 corners.

In Class 3A, Creswell recorded 8-0 victories against La Pine and East Linn Christian last week. These victories put Creswell on track for a league title for Special District 3, where the Bulldogs are 5-0. Their Mountain Valley Conference rivals, the Pleasant Hill Billies, went 0-2 in league last week against Central Linn and Crosshill Christian / Jefferson. The Billies have struggled with a youthful roster this season that features only two seniors. They’ve notched only one win thus far.

In Class 5A, Springfield went 1-0-1 last week in two Midwestern League games. The Millers beat Churchill 3-2 and then drew 1-1 with the Ashland Grizzlies. The Millers are looking at fourth place in the Midwestern League. Meanwhile, the Thurston Colts recorded its first draw of the season in a scoreless game against North Eugene last week. Thurston is in fifth place in the Midwestern League standings.

Kicking off: The Billies play their last three games of the season with MVC foes. The postseason is out of reach. This week, they’ll play Siuslaw on Tuesday and La Pine (0-10) on Thursday.

#10 SPRINGFIELD (4-3-2)

Kicking off: The Millers play a rematch with North Eugene on Thursday and then face Eagle Point on Saturday for Senior Night. The Eagles are 0-3 in league play and it should be a breezy match for the outgoing seniors.

#24 THURSTON (3-6-1)

Kicking off: The Colts play Churchill this Thursday and then Crater on Saturday for their Senior Night. The Colts trail their city rivals, Springfield, in the Midwestern League standings.
