Engle Leads Cottage Grove in win; Creswell splits, Pleasant Hill defends

In Class 4a last week, the Cottage Grove Lions won 6-5 in an intense matchup against Molalla last Tuesday. Brielle Engle recorded 3 goals; Zoey Knutson recorded 1; Ally Kishen recorded 1; lastly, Autumn Leach recorded 1 goal and 3 assists.

In Class 3A, the Creswell Bulldogs went 1-1 last week, starting with a 2-0 loss to Central Linn. Before the loss, Creswell was on an undefeated streak. They made up for it by beating Siuslaw 3-1 on Thursday. The Pleasant Hill Billies battled to another scoreless finish last week, going 0-0 with Santiam Christian. This is the team second recorded tie of the season after going 0-0 with Central Linn last week. The Billies are particularly known for their impenetrable defense.

The Millers battled againist Midwestern League foe, the Churchill Lancers, last Tuesday. ALL PHOTOS BY KALLIE HANSEL-TENNES.

Lastly, in Class 5A, Springfield went 0-2 last week against early Midwestern League opponent Churchill in a shut out and then lost to West Albany. Thurston tied with North Bend last week 2-2. Last year, the team went 3-0 with the Class 4a Bulldogs

#4 COTTAGE GROVE LIONS (4-1)

Kicking off: After a successful non-league season, the Lions head into the Sky-Em League this week against formidable foes Marist Catholic and Marshfield. Look for leading scorer Brielle Engle who scored three goals against Molalla last week.

#13 CRESWELL BULLDOGS (4-1)

Kicking off: The Bulldogs start Special District 3, which includes rival matchup Pleasant Hill on Tuesday. On Thursday, they’ll play private school foe Santiam Christian.

7 PLEASANT HILL BILLIES (2-0-2)

Kicking off: The Billies begin league with their rival on Tuesday: The Creswell Bulldogs. Last year, the teams battled to a scoreless finish. The Billies have a difficult defense to pass through, however, the Bulldogs have a very strong offense with leading scorer Mila Nguyen.

29 SPRINGFIELD MILLERS (2-3)

Kicking off: The Millers close out non-league on the road with Woodburn on Tuesday and Crescent Valley on Thursday. Last year, the Millers went 5-0 with Woodburn and lost 5-2 with Crescent Valley.

14 THURSTON COLTS (2-2-1)

Kicking off: The Colts seal off non-league with two home games against Cascade and Lebanon this week. Last year, the Colts went 5-1 with Lebanon and then lost to Cascade 4-0.
