CRESWELL— Creswell football coach Scott Worsham announced to his staff Monday, Oct.28, that his eight-year head coaching career was ending.
“After eight years as the head football coach at Creswell High School, I have decided to step down,” Worsham said. “This was not an easy decision because I love football, and I love coaching these young men here at Creswell.”
Worsham said the main reasons behind his were mental strain, bodily fatigue, and coaching burnout.
“I have overall been coaching football through my time in Pateros, Wash. (1999-02) and Creswell (2003-24) for about 25 years,” Worsham said. “I guess, I’m just ready for a break and to let someone else take over. The time commitment it takes to be a head high school football coach and the grind of a football season has taken its toll on me.
“Although I have embraced and loved it in the past, my body and mind are ready for a break. Maybe over time, I will find my way back to coaching football, but for now, I’m going to enjoy some extra time off to be with family and friends and watch the program from a distance,” he said.
Worsham said he’ll continue to coach softball and girls’ flag football. He also teaches math at CHS.
Worsham thanked supporters.
“I want to thank all the parents of all the players I’ve coached for all their support,” Worsham said. “I want to thank all the players I’ve coached for their blood, sweat, tears, and hard work.” He also thanked school officials. “I’d like to thank my dad, Joe Worsham, who is in the Washington State High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame, for showing me what it takes to be a coach and mentor to young men. And I’d like to thank my wife Kandice for all her support these last eight years; she’s been with me from day one and stood by my side.”
CHS athletic director Brandon Standridge said he will open the position immediately and work to find someone that builds on “Scott’s foundation to get back into the playoffs.”
