Springfield Millers (2-5-1, #25)

Kicking off: Testy league opponent, the Ashland Grizzlies, will step foot onto Silke field and face the Millers on Saturday. However, the Millers are feeling confident after their win against Hillsboro last weekend and head coach Juan Gonzalez said, “This result gives us a boost of confidence to start our first league game vs Churchill; I feel that regarding the scores and games that we played; we didn’t play them badly; we just were not finishing. If we keep up this rhythm I am very positive that our league games are going to be different.”

Thurston Colts (3-6, #26)

Kicking off: The Colts continue their league games and welcome the Churchill Lancers to their field. Both teams have experienced their own ups and downs. This might be a good way for the Colts to get a tight, hard-earned win. Senior leaders like Tucker Fitzpatrick and Noah Zanotto might rise to the occasion.

RECAPS

Cottage Grove dealt with the North Bend 4-0 last Thursday. Jack Allen scored the first goal early in the game from a penalty kick. Felix Garza scored the second goal off an assist from Emmanuel Rea. In the second half, Rea scored the third score from a rebound save from North Bend’s keeper in the lower right corner. Hayes Valley scored the Lion’s final goal off an assist from Rea in a cross.

Creswell beat La Pine 8-0 Monday night.

Pleasant Hill lost 5-1 against Crosshill Christian/Jefferson Monday night.

Springfield won 4-2 against Hillsboro last Saturday and grabbed their second win of the season. During a corner kick, freshman Easton Sankey crossed and senior Rowan Branch scored the Millers’ first goal off a header. Then, Sankey crossed again and junior Bradly Velasquez deflected the cross and in the far post, senior Diego Gomez scored the second goal.

Thurston lost to Ashland on Saturday 3-0. The team is struggling with injuries and absences. However, GK Sam Castanza had crucial saves to keep the Colts in the match, and Jordan Hernandez has “matured in the midfield and had a wonderful game,” the coach said.
